How to Join

HOW TO JOIN OUR CREW

Who is eligible to join?

The program is open to youth ages 13 to 21 years old. While Odyssey generally serves the Tacoma-area community, youth have joined the program from as far north as Everett and as far south as Olympia.  (If you would like to commute from that far, often our members coordinate carpools to make the regular commute easier.)

Contact Skipper Eric Kiesel at erickiesel.md.phd@gmail.com for more information!

How much does it cost?

When someone joins, he or she will become part of the Boy Scouts of America family. As such, there is a one time joining fee of $25 that helps pay for the cost of processing the paperwork and background checks that we conduct (for our adult members).

In addition to this one time fee, each member is responsible for paying their yearly program dues, which are $125. This money partly goes toward funding the national organization that is our parent program and partly toward helping the Odyssey Sea Scout program keep running and covers the costs of our members’ work uniforms.

If these costs would prohibit you from joining, please know that we do have scholarships available for those who can’t afford our fees.

Not sure if this program is a good fit for you? Come and join us for a free trial!

(Please call our Skipper Eric Kiesel first so we can ensure there’s room for you and that we don’t leave the dock without you!)

When we meet:

The Odyssey crew has weekly meetings on Saturdays. Meetings start at 9am with a work party (Nothing like an opportunity to put our vessel maintenance skills to use!) then from 12pm-3pm we switch to sail training. Sail training meetings are filled with adventure and learning skills that last a lifetime. Odyssey is docked at the Tacoma Youth Marine Center at:

820 E D St, Tacoma, WA 98421.
